Apple is set to enter the foldable smartphone market in late 2026, according to industry tracker TrendForce, confirming earlier estimates by supply‑chain analyst Ming‑Chi Kuo.
TrendForce forecasts the iPhone model will offer an 8‑inch internal display and a 6.5‑inch exterior screen, matching figures Kuo first reported in March. Both sources now point to identical dimensions, bolstering confidence in the device’s design ahead of its anticipated release.
The report suggests a September 2026 debut for the foldable handset, placing Apple among competitors already offering flexible displays. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 currently features an 8‑inch interior and a 6.5‑inch cover screen, providing a direct comparison for the iPhone’s forthcoming form factor.
Kuo has also revealed Apple intends to eliminate the visible crease on the inner panel by employing a laser‑drilled metal display layer. This technique redistributes the stress of bending across the screen, aiming for a seamless viewing surface.
On the camera front, the foldable iPhone is expected to include dual rear lenses, a single front‑facing shooter and a Touch ID–equipped power button, foregoing Face ID for biometric authentication. Apple’s move into foldable technology marks its first new iPhone category since the introduction of the iPhone X in 2017.
