Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, has acknowledged that the deep tech revolution — encompassing artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and quantum computing — represents the biggest challenge and risk facing Reliance Jio and India’s broader digital ambitions.

Speaking at a recent industry event, Ambani admitted that while Reliance has made groundbreaking progress in telecom and digital services, future success will depend on mastering complex technologies that go far beyond connectivity.

"Deep Tech is Disruptive — and Unavoidable"

According to Ambani, deep tech is evolving faster than anticipated, and companies that fail to invest in or adapt to it risk becoming obsolete. He emphasized that Jio’s transformation into a technology-first company will hinge on how it handles innovations in:

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Advanced Robotics

Blockchain and Web 3.0

Quantum Computing

Space and Satellite Communications

“The next phase of digital growth will be powered not by access, but by intelligence — and India must lead, not follow,” Ambani stated.

Jio's Strategy: Build, Collaborate, or Acquire

To stay ahead of the curve, Reliance is reportedly:

Setting up in-house R&D teams in emerging tech areas

Collaborating with global tech firms and startups

Exploring strategic acquisitions to fill capability gaps

Investing in next-gen data infrastructure and AI models

Ambani also stressed the need for a strong policy ecosystem that encourages innovation and protects data sovereignty while keeping India competitive on the global stage.

A National Responsibility

Ambani views Jio’s deep tech push as more than just a business imperative — he sees it as a national responsibility. He called upon Indian entrepreneurs, academia, and policymakers to come together in building a resilient tech foundation for the country.

“India must not miss this wave. We’ve caught the digital surge with mobile and data. Now we must ride the wave of intelligence,” he said.

As Reliance Jio ventures beyond connectivity into the complex world of deep tech, Mukesh Ambani’s vision sets a high-stakes roadmap — one that could determine not only the company’s future but also India’s place in the next era of global innovation.
