On Wednesday, the AI startup Anthropic established by ex-OpenAI researchers revealed that it got new investments from Microsoft and Nvidia amounting to $15 billion. The new funding has almost a twofold effect on the company’s market value, which increased from $183 billion in September to $350 billion.

The infusion of capital is indicative of a larger collaboration among the three companies that will work together to produce sophisticated AI models more quickly. Moreover, Microsoft and Nvidia will become the company’s strategic partners and will give the necessary infrastructure and technical assistance to Anthropic’s AI systems.

Microsoft's CEO, Satya Nadella, during the video conference said that the deal does not reduce the company's active collaboration with OpenAI. “OpenAI remains a very important partner. However, we will be collaborating with Anthropic more and more, using their models while supplying our infrastructure,” Nadella stated.

Under their deal, Anthropic will invest up to $30 billion in cloud computing resources from Microsoft Azure working on Nvidia AI power. In the view of Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang, the partnership has been ‘dream come true’ and will make the whole process of developing Anthropic’s Claude models much faster.

Founded in 2021 by a group of ex-OpenAI executives led by CEO Dario Amodei, Anthropic is already getting noticed for its Claude series of big language models. The latest model, Claude Sonnet 4.5, is said to obey very intricate commands and can write code by itself for an extensive period, as long as 30 hours without a break.

Microsoft's investment, which is $5 billion, highlights its intention to move beyond OpenAI and to build up the AI partnerships. It is already estimated that Microsoft owns 27% of the for-profit division of OpenAI, worth around $135 billion. At the same time, Anthropic has always had Amazon Web Services as its cloud provider but now the models will also be available through Azure.

Industry watchers consider the move to be just a step in the direction of AI circular financing, where the technology giants are investing in competitors while at the same time buying their products and services. Such partnerships can lead to more and faster innovations and help the growth of the companies involved. On the other hand, the experts point out that such investments might be financially risky and could even lead to an AI market bubble.

Nevertheless, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Anthropic are taking this opportunity and have plans for the future in generative AI, and forging the investment-infrastructure-model development partnership which is already being considered by industry analysts to be the winning strategy that could potentially change the competitive landscape.
