Meesho set to add new category of sellers

Hyderabad E-commerce marketplace Meesho on Thursday said it is working on expanding its category beyond fashion, wellness, personal care by onboarding sellers providing products under stationary, office supply, sportswear, furniture and pet food and accessories.

Currently, the platform has over 35 high-end categories. With this expansion in place, Meesho is targeting 20-40 per cent growth in the user and seller base.

Meesho promotes its platform in the tier II and III cities as the consumers in metros are mostly shoppers preferring branded products. Meesho claims to have five per cent of Indian households shopping every day, 11 lakh sellers, and over 10 crore active products listed on its platform. While giving insights on its last years business, Meesho said that 80 per cent of the orders were placed from tier-II cities of India, and 10 crore orders, the highest in the year were during festive period in September and October 2022.

“For the next few quarters, our focus is going to be on expanding categories and growing our user and seller base. We are in talks with seller clusters in the category of office supply, stationary, sportswear, furniture and pet products. We might enter the grocery segment. However, we are still studying this market,” said Utkarsh Garg, Director-Business, Meesho.

Speaking about its business in Telangana, Garg said: “From May 2022 to 2023, sellers on Meesho delivered 3.3 crore orders in Telangana. Nearly 17,000 small businesses from this State are now registered on the platform. In 2022, we recorded 20 per cent increase in supplier’s onboarded from TS."
