Magic 8 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro Max: Stunning Low-Light Zoom Results

In a very recent low-light photography test, the flagship of Honor, the Magic 8 Pro, got a big lead on Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max in terms of night zoom ability. The results are based on a field test in which both devices were challenged to take in extremely low-light conditions.

The test was conducted at Night Safari, where photographers tried to take pictures of wild animals without bothering the beasts. Honor turned on the Magic 8 Pro's Night Mode Auto while the Apple device was in its standard night mode. Both smartphones were configured for high ISO, wide aperture, and rapid shutter speed, with very little artificial light used to keep things as natural as possible.

When the zoom levels were reached, the Magic 8 Pro used its 10x zoom lens, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max had to settle for its 8x zoom camera. The photos taken by Honor's camera were much clearer, with correct colors, fine details and looking very natural even though the photographer was quite far from the subjects. The iPhone was, no doubt, doing a decent job but it couldn't keep the same quality of the image through its entire processing.

Honor made much of the results and touted them as the company's triumph in low-light zoom photography, pegged the Magic 8 Pro's Night Mode and superior telephoto as crucial differences. The company provided the pictures as proof of the disparity in the two gadgets’ performances.

Now, observers and tech enthusiasts are making the comparisons to find who the winner is in the night photography segment of the phones. Honor, on the other hand, did not discourage the questions but rather invited the users to view the images, and then give their judgment about the performance of the device.

This comparison highlights the increasing rivalry in smartphone cameras, especially in the dark. The Magic 8 Pro is now offering such bright and clear night photos that it is already questioning the standard set for flagship night photography.
