Lava’s new mid-range smartphone, the Play Ultra 5G, is now on sale in India for the first time. The device, introduced last week in the country, enters the sub-Rs 15,000 price category with a focus on performance and gaming features.
The smartphone is being sold through Amazon, with sales beginning at 12 p.m. IST. Customers can choose from two color options – Arctic Slate and Arctic Frost. The base configuration with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 14,999, while the 8GB/128GB variant is listed at Rs 16,499. Lava is also offering an instant Rs 1,000 bank discount on purchases during the initial sale.
The Lava Play Ultra 5G runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset and is equipped with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display featuring Full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. The screen is calibrated for the DCI-P3 color gamut, providing a wide color range for multimedia.
The phone features a dual-camera system on the back, led by a 64-megapixel Sony IMX682 primary sensor and a 5-megapixel macro lens. On the front, a 13-megapixel selfie camera supports modes including Portrait, HDR, Night Mode, Panorama, Pro Mode, AR Stickers, Slow Motion, and Time Lapse.
Running Android 15, the device promises two Android version upgrades and three years of security patches. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, OTG support, and a USB Type-C port. It is rated IP64 for protection against dust and splashes.
The 5,000mAh battery supports 33W fast charging, and Lava claims a full charge in approximately 83 minutes. The company estimates up to 45 hours of talk time or about 510 hours of standby on a single charge. Dual stereo speakers enhance the audio experience, making it suitable for gaming and entertainment.
Lava aims to position the Play Ultra 5G as a performance-focused option for users seeking a balance of price and gaming capabilities. The launch comes amid growing competition in the affordable 5G segment, with brands targeting budget-conscious consumers seeking premium-grade specifications at lower price points.
