Last Major Update for Galaxy S21 FE: One UI 8 Android 16 Rolls Out

Samsung has begun the process of updating the Galaxy S21 FE with One UI 8 which is based on Android 16, thereby signifying the end of the device's major software upgrade cycle. The update came through a gradual pace which was especially noticeable in the earlier months but has now quickened to reach users in some Asian markets this week.

The Galaxy S21 FE was officially released in January 2022 and has received a total of four major updates, including the last one. Samsung has promised that the upgrade to Android 16 will be the last major update for this smartphone. After the phone has received the last major upgrade, it will still be in normal operation but owners should aware that no more major updates are coming.

The firmware version G990EXXUIHYJ2 is now being rolled out in Vietnam and Thailand. The size of the download is over 2GB and that is why Samsung is suggesting users to go for a stable Wi-Fi connection instead of mobile data to avoid interruptions.

The update not only brings the One UI 8 but also the security patch for September 2025, thereby enhancing the overall device protection. Users can manually check the update through the Settings menu. However, it is better to be careful as Samsung has at times suspended updates very shortly after distribution in order to fix possible problems.

The updates in One UI 8 are more incremental than revolutionary. The new version does bring in a few features but it is still mainly aimed at bringing the device’s software cycle to a close without creating a negative impact on the user experience. It is not the case that users on the fence about the new installation will miss out on functions that are critical, but rather that they will be able to enjoy the full security and software improvements.
