IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is decking up the Millennium Tower at posh Rushikonda to launch its operations in Visakhapatnam signalling the city's transformation into a tech hub.

TCS is busy making the interiors and necessary changes for a world-class work environment immediately after the allotment of 2.08 lakh sft at the Millennium Tower, built by the State Government after engaging AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation as the nodal agency. The allotment was facilitated after the Board of Approval of Government of India denotified the tower as Special Economic Zone on the recommendation of IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh.

TCS is also the first anchor investor under the NDA coalition to get 21.6 acres on Hill No. 3 of Rushikonda Hills at 99 paise per acre. The company has signed MoU with AP Government for investment of Rs.1370 crore to create jobs for 12,000 in phases.TCS will function temporarily at Millennium Tower till the permanent campus is made ready.

Further, the decision by Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) to open a campus and Google to set up a mega data centre in Visakhapatnam will help create a robust tech ecosystem to make the 'City of Destiny' into a prominent hub for IT and data centres.

Adani Group under the Adani Data Park is in possession of land in the city for investment of over Rs.20,000 crore on an integrated data centre, IT and business park, recreation centre and a skill development university. The company has been allotted nearly 200 acres at Madhurawada.

Cognizant has also been allotted 22 acre on payment of 99 paise per acre. The company will invest an estimated Rs.1583 crore at Kapuluppada IT Hills with a 8,000-seater campus.

Minister Lokesh said during visit to the city that after TCS, Cognizant will launch its operations from a temporary campus. Its permanent campus is scheduled to be ready by early 2029.

He said with Google agreeing to establish an AI-propelled data centre in the city, the big ticket projects coming to Visakhapatnam will leverage the local talent pool facilitating a future-ready digital talent force as part of a knowledge society.

The Union Ministry of Commerce has confirmed that Google will establish Asia's largest data centre through submarine cable landing stations. The one GW capacity data centre project is envisaged with an investment of USD 6 billion.
