The efforts to make Visakhapatnam an leading IT hub will get a major fillup with the decision of French IT services leader Capgemini to acquire WNS, leading digital BPM for USD 3.3 billion.

Capgemini sources said that the transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The company stated that it will buy WNS for cash consideration of USD 76.50 per WNS share.

WNS has a large presence pan India with big facilities in Pune, Visakhapatnam, Gurgaon, Mumbai and other places

WNS has its fourth largest employment in Visakhapatnam with a workforce of 5,000. Globally it has around 65,000 headcount. The company has a robust presence in the BPM sector with software manpower of 800 to 1,000 in Pune. In about 11 years, the company has undertaken a massive expansion.

Asked for his comments, Sreedhar Kosaraju, Founder of AP Digital Technology Industry (APDTI) Network, told Bizz Buzz that it is a very big development to put Visakhapatnam in the elite list of prominent IT cities of the world. He said "the acquisition not only validates Andhra Pradesh's thriving talent pool but also positions the State for transformative growth."

The decision has come in the backdrom of Andhra Pradesh Government to allot each 21 to 22 acres of land at 99 paise per acre as anchor players to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) to set up development centres with an employment potential of 20,000 and a combined investment of over Rs.20,000 crore in next two to three years.

While Adani Tech Park is setting up a data center and IT park with an investment of Rs.21,000 crore, the government has offered 80 acres after signing an MoU for a AI-powered data center to Google.

Earlier, IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh had posted on X that Visakhapatnam will get several IT big players soon. While plug and play facilities have been developed at Millennium Tower-A at Rushikonda IT Park by APIIC, tower-B is ready for operation with a promise to TCS by the government for allotment of space till a permanent building is ready.
