Xiaomi has issued a worldwide recall of its 33W 20000mAh Power Bank (Integrated Cable), citing overheating risks in a specific production batch. The recall covers model PB2030MI, manufactured between August and September 2024, and affects 146,891 units sold globally.
The action expands a recall first launched in China earlier this year. Xiaomi said the decision was made to “eliminate safety hazards” and prevent potential fire risks linked to the product.
According to Xiaomi, the affected devices use the 126280 Version 2.0 battery cell, which may overheat under certain conditions. Although reported incidents remain minimal, the company opted for a global recall as a precaution.
Customers are encouraged to verify their product’s eligibility by checking the serial number on the back of the device or using an online verification tool. Units with damaged or missing serial numbers will not qualify for refunds.
Consumers owning the PB2030MI model are eligible for a full refund of 159 yuan (Rs 1,940). Refund claims can be made in two ways:
1. Visiting a Xiaomi Home store, where staff will confirm eligibility and process refunds.
2. Draining and disposing of the power bank safely, uploading disposal proof online, and submitting product details through Xiaomi’s official website.
The company emphasized that other Xiaomi power banks are not affected, as they use different battery cells.
In a public statement, Xiaomi apologized for the inconvenience and stressed that this is a voluntary recall aimed at protecting consumers. “Product safety remains our top priority,” the company said, urging customers to take immediate action to avoid potential risks.
