If you have come across news stating that WhatsApp is rolling out a third blue tick to detect screenshots, you should ignore the news completely. That is because WhatsApp is not rolling out any tick or trick to notify users that a screenshot has been taken of their message. As much as we would want the feature, the messaging app currently has no plans to roll out such screenshot detection features.

WhatsApp features tracker, Wabetainfo that provides the exclusive details about WhatsApp's upcoming feature has outrightly denied the news of a third tick. Wabetainfo posted on Twitter saying, "WhatsApp is NOT developing a third blue check to detect screenshots: it's fake news."

Speculations were rife that WhatsApp will soon introduce a third tick to notify users when a screenshot of their message is taken. While the news is completely untrue, some users seem to have fallen for the fake news. Before you blindly believe what you read on social media, you should crosscheck with the official WhatsApp handle on Twitter. WhatsApp announces every new feature on Twitter and you will be informed about it as soon as the feature is released.

Currently, WhatsApp only has two ticks to notify users that their messages have been delivered. When the two ticks turn blue, it means that the receiver has read the messages. If there is only tick, it means that the message has not been delivered.

Users can also turn off the blue ticks if they do not want their contacts to know whether they have read the message or not. Here are the steps you should follow for turning off the read receipts

It is important to note that if you turn off the Read Receipts, you will also not be able to see whether your messages have been read or not because the blue ticks would not appear for you as well if you hide yours. This is similar to how when you hide your last seen from your contacts, you also don't get to see their last seen. However, even if you have turned off read receipts for individual chats, there is no possible way of turning the blue ticks off for your group chats. WhatsApp is yet to roll out an update that lets you hide read receipts for group chats.
