Apple’s iOS 26 is set to release in fall 2025, introducing a suite of features rooted in the company’s Apple Intelligence platform and a fresh visual style called Liquid Glass. However, support for iOS 26 is not universal—many older iPhone models will not be eligible.

iOS 26 will address various security vulnerabilities, and Apple will continue providing limited updates to iOS 18, the preceding version, for a transitional period of approximately six months. After this grace period, unless Apple deviates from its current software maintenance model, future updates to iOS 18 will be restricted to critical threat patches only.

Prolonged use of outdated software may increase vulnerability to exploits, including spyware attacks and data breaches. Apple encourages timely upgrades to maintain device integrity and reduce exposure to emerging threats.

Key privacy improvements in iOS 26 include:

* Call Screening: Automatically handles unknown callers by prompting them to state their identity and purpose. The user can then decide to accept or reject the call, building upon Live Voicemail introduced in iOS 18.

* Digital ID Integration: U.S. passport holders can now add a verified digital ID to Apple Wallet for use at TSA checkpoints and in compatible apps.

* Private Browsing Upgrades: Enhanced fingerprinting protection will now apply across all Safari sessions by default.

Compatible Devices List for iOS 26

Here are the iPhone models confirmed to support iOS 26:

* iPhone 15 series

* iPhone 14 series

* iPhone 13 series

* iPhone 12 series

* iPhone 11 series

* iPhone SE (2nd generation and newer)

Users operating on older models are advised to consider transitioning to supported devices—particularly those in high-risk professions or handling sensitive information.
