Apple is set to reveal the iOS 26 update during the launch event for its iPhone 17 series on September 9, 2025. The operating system, first introduced at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, brings a redesigned interface, enhanced system tools, and optimized performance for supported devices.
Industry patterns suggest Apple will start distributing iOS 26 globally around September 15–16, 2025, approximately a week after the iPhone 17 announcement. This approach aligns with Apple’s past strategy of releasing software updates shortly before new iPhones reach the market. iPadOS 26 will also debut alongside iOS 26, offering iPads a corresponding set of design and feature upgrades.
Apple has confirmed that all iPhone models launched from 2019 onward will support the new update. Devices eligible for iOS 26 include:
* iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)
* iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
* iPhone 12 series: 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
* iPhone 13 series: 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
* iPhone 14 series: 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
* iPhone 15 series: 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
* iPhone 16 series: 16e, 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max
With the iOS 26 rollout, Apple will discontinue support for the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. Models such as iPhone X and iPhone 8 had already been excluded from prior updates.
The iOS 26 update is expected to provide users with improved system efficiency, smoother app operation, and a refreshed user interface across all compatible devices.
