The latest launch from Apple, the iPhone Air, has already entered the Indian market but the initial comments indicate that the super-slim design could lead to a great sacrifice in practicality. The 256GB version priced at around Rs 1,19,900 offers a device that is easily portable and attractive; however, its performance and features are causing debate among tech experts.

The iPhone Air not only exemplifies but also celebrates Apple’s genius in engineering by coming up with a lightweight and strikingly smooth body that lures the design-conscious people. Still, the sleekness comes with certain limitations.

Under heavy usage, the device is likely to get hot which is due to its ultra-thin frame that is quite inefficient in terms of heat dissipation. Gamers or users with high-demand apps who are doing so for a long period may suffer from thermal throttling; thus, their performance will not be as good as with the relatively thicker devices like the iPhone 17 Pro.

The iPhone Air, unlike its Pro counterparts, features only one 48MP main rear camera. The lack of ultra-wide and telephoto lenses severely hampers the choice of the photographer with respect to landscape and zoom shots. Among the features associated with the Pro level are the 8K recording and sophisticated stabilization, which are also not present in the iPhone Air making the latter’s use more limited to non-professional photography or videography.

The front-facing camera does come with a Center Stage lens with an 18MP resolution and smart tracking that makes video conferences better but it hardly compensates for the rear camera's limitations. Battery and Audio Concerns

The Air, despite its stylish design, has to put up with battery performance that is no match for the Pro series in case of heavy use. Also, Apple has once again gone for a lone mono speaker which makes gaming and consuming media not as immersive as before. Sound emitted by one of the others is not as powerful as the one in Air delivered, especially in landscape mode.

If a little bit more is spent, then the iPhone 17 Pro is to be taken in as it is a phone with a more balanced experience. The Pro, with its two cameras, better cooling and longer battery life, comes with a price. The stereo audio of the Pro variant, its multi-lens setup and unceasing performance make it an appropriate choice for those who like power rather than a small piece of technology.

Apple followers who are interested in the Air will definitely love its look, weight, and powerful chipset. Nonetheless, the iPhone 17 Pro might be seen as a license to extra money for the perfect device that does the hardest jobs, takes the best pictures, and immerses you in sound experience. The Air could be seen as a nice but expensive accessory rather than a fully functional daily driver in case of being good looking.

The iPhone Air stands for Apple’s endeavor to marry beauty with power, nevertheless, the early reports indicate that performance is the price of style. Those consumers in India will have to make up their minds on the one hand over the visual charm and on the other hand over the limitations of the camera, cooling, power and sound quality, before getting the top-priced gadget.
