Apple and Google are finalizing plans to release their next-generation smartphones, aiming to strengthen their positions in the global premium handset market. Both companies are set to unveil upgraded hardware and software features intended to attract customers seeking high-end devices.
Apple’s 2025 range will include four models — iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new iPhone 17 Air. The Air model, thinner and positioned in the mid-tier segment, will take the place of the outgoing “Plus” version. Google’s Pixel 10 lineup will also feature four devices — Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
Apple’s upcoming Pro Max variant is expected to integrate three 48MP rear lenses — wide, ultra-wide, and tetraprism telephoto — along with 8K video recording. The front camera resolution across the lineup could increase from 12MP to 24MP, enabling sharper output and better cropping. Pro models may also add mechanical aperture controls for depth-of-field adjustments and a dual video mode allowing simultaneous front and rear recording.
The iPhone 17 Air is likely to carry a single 48MP rear camera, while the standard iPhone 17 is expected to feature dual wide and ultra-wide lenses. Pro-exclusive hardware, such as 5x optical zoom and telephoto capability, will remain unchanged.
On the Pixel side, the base Pixel 10 may offer a 48MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 25mm wide lens, dual pixel PDAF, and optical image stabilization (OIS). A 10.8MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, 112mm focal length, and OIS is expected, along with a 12MP ultrawide lens. Features like single-zone laser autofocus, Pixel Shift, Ultra-HDR, panorama, and Best Take will be included. Video support could reach 4K at up to 60 fps and 1080p at up to 240 fps with gyro-EIS and 10-bit HDR.
The Pixel 10’s front-facing camera may feature a 10.5MP ultrawide sensor with PDAF, HDR, and 4K video capability at 30/60 fps.
Apple’s iPhone 17 series is expected to debut the A19 Pro processor, using TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process, with up to 12GB RAM for enhanced multitasking and AI-driven Apple Intelligence features.
Google’s Pixel 10 series will run Android 16, powered by the Tensor G5 chipset manufactured on a 4nm process. Its octa-core CPU is expected to include one Cortex-X4 core at 3.1GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores at 2.6GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.92GHz, paired with a Mali-G715 MC7 GPU. Internal storage options will be 128GB or 256GB, using UFS 3.1, with no microSD expansion. Google plans to support seven major Android version updates for the device.
The Google Pixel 10 series is scheduled for release on August 20, 2025. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025.
