Apple is preparing to introduce the iPhone 17 series at its September 9 “Awe Dropping” launch event, where multiple product announcements are expected. Industry reports indicate U.S. buyers may see changes in pricing for at least one model in the lineup.
The iPhone 17 family is expected to include four models:
* iPhone 17: Projected starting price of $799, consistent with the iPhone 16.
* iPhone 17 Air: Estimated launch price between $899 and $949, slightly higher than the iPhone 16 Plus.
* iPhone 17 Pro: Forecasted to start at $1,099, a $100 increase from the previous Pro model.
* iPhone 17 Pro Max: Likely to remain priced at $1,199.
Analyst Samik Chatterjee of JP Morgan, cited by 9to5Mac, suggests the pricing increase for the iPhone 17 Pro reflects a storage change rather than a standard price adjustment. The model is expected to start with 256GB of storage, eliminating the 128GB base option. This would make it the first Apple Pro model since the iPhone X in 2017 to start above $999 in the U.S. market.
The iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to be Apple’s slimmest smartphone so far, potentially replacing the Plus version introduced in previous lineups. Reports suggest this model will focus on reduced thickness and weight while maintaining high performance.
Apple has maintained stable U.S. pricing for its smartphones over several generations. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 lines launched at $799 for the base model, $899 for the Plus, $999 for the Pro, and $1,199 for the Pro Max.
