The recent iPhone models by Apple, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, have become the center of attraction due to an odd problem some users have reported: a very light and occasional noise during the battery charging process.
Users across the online forums and Apple’s support community explain the noise as a crack of static, a hissing tone, or something similar to the interference of an old radio. The noise, according to the reports, may be heard when the battery is around 75 percent charged, at low audio playing, and sometimes even when the device is not charging.
“A Reddit user stated that while the device is being charged, the sound comes from the speakers,” one participant in the forum said. “It is not loud but can be heard, similar to an old walkie-talkie or radio interference.” Some users have said that charging with MagSafe makes the noise less; however, it does not totally get rid of it.
Apple has recognized the issue and is looking into it. A user posted that Apple support had raised the issue to the engineering team. The sound anomaly has not yet been fixed even though several iOS updates have been released over the last few weeks.
The problem seems to be rare rather than common and a number of iPhone 17 Pro users state that they do not have the issue at all. Some analysts think that vibrations from the hardware during charging or electromagnetic interference are the reasons for the noise, but Apple has not made any official statement yet.
The users who are affected by the sound are being advised to wait for the iOS updates and take that as a sign to take action. For some the noise is so faint that they cannot even hear it, but others say it could be irritating in a silent place. The sound has been compared to white noise, and some users find it strangely reminiscent of old-fashioned electronics.
