Apple’s next-generation smartphone lineup is nearing launch, with multiple reports pointing to significant upgrades across all four iPhone 17 models. Industry leaks suggest a September unveiling, continuing Apple’s annual release cycle.
The iPhone 17 series is expected to include the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Changes are anticipated in display technology, camera hardware, and processing power, with several Pro-exclusive features set to appear in non-Pro devices for the first time.
The base model is reported to feature a 6.3-inch screen and run on Apple’s A19 chip. A 24-megapixel front-facing TrueDepth camera is said to replace the long-standing 12MP sensor, marking a notable step forward in selfie quality. ProMotion and always-on display support are also expected to arrive on this model. Colour options may include purple, green, blue, black, and white. The starting price is projected at $799 (about Rs 70,000).
Replacing the Plus version, the iPhone 17 Air will reportedly focus on a lightweight, thin profile. It could feature a 6.6-inch screen, A19 Pro processor with fewer GPU cores, and 12GB of RAM. The device may carry a single 48MP rear camera alongside the upgraded 24MP front camera. Apple’s first in-house C1 5G modem is expected to debut here. Available colours may include light blue, light gold, black, and silver. Launch price is estimated at $949 (around Rs 83,100).
Both Pro models are said to adopt a horizontal camera bar across the back, moving away from the existing square module. Aluminium frames are expected to replace titanium. Screen sizes should remain 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. Powered by the full-spec A19 Pro chip, both devices could feature a 48MP telephoto camera in addition to the main and ultra-wide lenses. The Pro Max may gain a larger battery, and both models are expected to include anti-reflective, scratch-resistant displays. Pricing may start at $1,049 (about Rs 91,900) for the Pro and $1,249 (around Rs 1,09,500) for the Pro Max.
Apple’s announcement event is likely to take place on September 9, if the company follows its traditional second-week-of-September schedule. Pre-orders are expected to open shortly after the reveal, with retail sales beginning later in the month.
