Apple unveiled its latest iPhone line-up at the “Awe Dropping” event on Monday, presenting a series of upgrades across design, performance, and camera technology. The iPhone 17 series takes center stage, offering new models and enhanced features that set the stage for one of the most significant refreshes of Apple’s flagship smartphones.
The standard iPhone 17 is expected to feature a slightly larger 6.3-inch display with a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and always-on functionality. Industry sources suggest it will include a 24MP front camera, Apple’s A19 chip, support for 25W MagSafe Qi2 wireless charging, and a new color palette including steel grey, green, and purple.
A major highlight is the iPhone 17 Air, designed as a slim, lightweight alternative to the previous Plus models. At just 5.5mm thick and weighing 145 grams, it may include a titanium-aluminium frame and a 6.6-inch ProMotion display. Expected specifications include a 48MP rear camera, the A19 processor with Apple’s C1 modem, 12GB of RAM, a 3,000mAh battery, and Action and Camera Control buttons. Exclusive color finishes are anticipated, including light gold and sky blue.
The premium tier, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, focuses on camera and performance enhancements. The redesigned back may feature a horizontal camera bar with aluminium-glass construction, brighter displays, and an Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip. The models are projected to include a 48MP telephoto lens with up to 8× optical zoom and 8K video recording capability. The Pro Max is expected to house a 5,088mAh battery, while storage for both Pro variants may start at 256GB. New finishes like dark blue and orange are predicted.
Pricing for the standard iPhone 17 is expected to begin at $799 in the U.S. with 128GB of storage. Analysts forecast higher starting prices for the Pro and Pro Max models, with TrendForce estimating $1,199 for the Pro and $1,299 for the Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air could debut at $1,099 for the 256GB version. J.P. Morgan predicts slightly lower pricing for the Pro range, starting around $1,099.
Pre-orders for the new iPhone models are anticipated to open on Friday, Sept. 12, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time, with deliveries and in-store availability expected starting Friday, Sept. 19.
