Apple’s upcoming iOS 26 update is set to introduce a key enhancement for iPhone 16 users, offering faster wireless charging with third-party MagSafe chargers. The update, expected alongside the launch of the iPhone 17 series, brings the Liquid Glass UI, Apple Intelligence features, and now an improved charging experience.
According to recent beta testing, iOS 26 adds support for the Qi 2.2 standard, enabling iPhone 16 models to charge at speeds up to 25W using compatible third-party chargers. Previously, fast wireless charging outside Apple’s official MagSafe accessories was capped at 15W. With this change, users can now utilize any Qi2-certified charger for accelerated wireless charging.
The update is expected to extend similar benefits to the iPhone 17 series, with some leaks suggesting potential wireless charging speeds of up to 50W. However, Apple has not confirmed these higher rates, and full details will likely emerge at launch.
iOS 26 will officially roll out in September alongside the new iPhone 17 models. The new iPhones will come preloaded with iOS 26, while older models, including the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 series, will receive the update shortly after the launch event. Rumors point to September 9, 2025, as the likely date for the Apple announcement.
