Apple iPhone users operating with iOS 26 to upgrade their iPhones are warned about a concealed setting that might lead the devices being damaged by security risks. The wired accessories being set up at the default setting may invite unauthorized connections when the device is unlocked thus putting the users at the loss of data.

The problem is in the “Wired Accessories” settings of Apple which can be accessed through Settings > Privacy & Security > Security.

There are four choices for the users:

Always Ask: Every time the accessory is approved manually.

Ask for New Accessories: Just new devices are approved the first time they connect.

Automatically Allow When Unlocked: The connections are permitted automatically while the phone is unlocked (default).

Always Allow: All connections are automatically approved without any restrictions.

Specialists alert going the default Automatically Allow When Unlocked and Always Allow options could lead users to juice jacking, for instance, where bad devices pull data out through the wired connection. The security experts suggest transitioning to either Always Ask or Ask for New Accessories to prevent the device from being used less safely.

Numerous reports back up that iOS 26 is not allowing some users to change their settings currently. In some situations, only the less secure alternatives are provided while the more secure configurations are greyed out. Apple Support has supposedly guided affected users to reset their device settings as a way to attain full access again, though this is very inconvenient for many people.

The issue has sparked debates on social media channels, with Reddit being one of the places where people have posted screenshots showing missing or limited options. Apple has communicated that an upcoming update, probably iOS 26.0.2, will solve the issue with a more thorough fix predicted in iOS 26.1 later this month.

Users connecting any wired accessory to an unlocked iPhone are advised to exercise caution until the update is released. Unauthorized access or data compromise can be minimized through vigilance and changing settings wherever applicable.

This security flaw points out the difficulties that smartphone manufacturers have to deal with in the area of safety versus convenience at the consumer end. Apple and Google have previously utilized time limits and safeguards to stop forensic software from taking advantage of physical connections; however, user settings still play a very important role in keeping the device secure.

iPhone users must check their Wired Accessories settings without delay. Even though iOS 26 might come with some restrictions, Automatically Allow When Unlocked is still safer than Always Allow, but the best security move is to approve accessories one by one wherever possible.

Apple has not disclosed the extent of the vulnerability but is allegedly contacting the affected users directly. It is advisable for the users to stay updated on the situation and install iOS 26.0.2 or newer immediately after it becomes available in order to have full control over the accessory permissions again.
