The newest iOS 26 update from Apple is not only making visual changes for the users of the iPhone but also offering some problems related to the keyboard. Besides the Liquid Glass design and new interfaces of the apps, issues with the system keyboard are being reported by a large number of users, which leads to mistyped letters even with the autocorrect function turned off.
This update came with the iPhone 17 series already installed, and it is also available for the main previous models, has changed the look of various UI elements. The way the batters are shown has reportedly changed, making users who upgrade from iOS 18 get confused. There have also been reports of the battery performance of older devices worsening after the update.
The issues with the keyboard, however, seem to be the subject of most discussion. YouTuber Michi NekoMichi recorded the trouble by incautious typing on a phone with iOS 26. Although he hit the right button, his phone still said different letters. The problem is neither due to the autocorrect nor the predictive text, for the letters that show up on the screen are exactly the ones being pressed. For example, typing "U" can sometimes result in either "J" or "H" with iOS 26.
Not long after the video was released, it quickly gained huge popularity across YouTube and Reddit, revealing that the issue is widespread. One of the Reddit users reported, “I constantly feel that I must have done something wrong every time I get a novice typo like that. Feedback submitted.” Another developer of iOS commented, “I’ve been using iPhones since 2018, and the keyboard has always been tricky. But this bug in iOS 26 is unacceptable.” Users have also mentioned past issues with Apple’s keyboard and word prediction system in earlier iOS versions.
So far, Apple has not publicly acknowledged the issue. Experts say the submission of feedback through Apple's official portal and waiting for a software patch is the only solution. It is not known how long it will take to resolve this issue.
