Apple announced iOS 26 at its Worldwide Developers Conference, presenting the most significant interface change since iOS 7. The update introduces a design called Liquid Glass, which brings a new look across the lock screen, home screen, and system apps. Several built-in applications have also been updated with additional tools and functions that align with the redesigned system.
The public version of iOS 26 is expected on September 15, 2026. The software release will coincide with the debut of the iPhone 17 lineup at Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, 2026. Apple recently issued Beta 5 of iOS 26 to developers, and a public beta is anticipated in early July 2025.
Apple has confirmed that iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone XR will not receive iOS 26. Compatible devices include:
* iPhone 11 series
* iPhone 12 series
* iPhone 13 series
* iPhone 14 series
* iPhone 15 series
* iPhone 16 series, including iPhone 16e
* iPhone SE second and third generation
Advanced Apple Intelligence features will be available only on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the entire iPhone 16 series, including iPhone 16e.
iOS 26 integrates Apple Intelligence, an AI framework designed to improve everyday use. Capabilities include context-based suggestions, intelligent summaries, and upgraded real-time translation.
Messages receives new customization options such as themed chats, polls, personalized backgrounds, extended typing indicators in group conversations, and Apple Cash integration. The Phone app gains call screening and Hold Assist, a feature that waits on the line until a representative is available. Apple Music and Maps will also see enhancements intended to simplify user interaction.
Developers who are part of the Apple Developer Program can install iOS 26 Beta by navigating to Settings, selecting General, then Software Update, and choosing Beta Updates. Apple advises backing up data before installing beta software to prevent data loss due to potential bugs.
