Apple has issued the ninth developer beta and sixth public beta of iOS 26, signaling the final round of testing before the software’s stable release next week alongside the iPhone 17 series. The latest beta build, which follows last week’s Beta 8 release, focuses primarily on addressing software bugs rather than introducing new features.
According to Apple’s release documentation, the update corrects a storage allocation error that caused system updates to reserve more device space than necessary. It also resolves issues with Siri’s ChatGPT-powered responses, which in some cases returned outdated answers. Fixes have been made for Image Playground and Genmoji glitches affecting Japanese language users.
Other improvements target Camera mode selection reliability, along with patches for problems within the Kernel, Contacts, Journaling, and lock screen functions. Apple is expected to roll out the final iOS 26 build to supported iPhone models on Sept. 15, coinciding with the iPhone 17 lineup’s arrival.
The Beta 9 release is now available as a free over-the-air download to users enrolled in Apple’s developer and public beta testing programs. The update supports iPhone 11 and later models, though Apple Intelligence features will remain exclusive to iPhone 16 devices, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
