Apple rolled out its iOS 18.6 update for iPhone users, following last week’s launch of the iOS 26 public beta program.
The 762 MB package delivers fixes for bugs discovered since the previous release. It addresses a Photos app error that prevented some users from saving or editing images, and it patches a Safari exploit that could allow attackers to spoof websites and execute code on affected devices.
In compliance with new EU regulations, the update adds support for alternative app downloads. Users in eligible regions can now install apps and third‑party app stores from approved web sources, subject to Apple’s security guidelines.
The iOS 18.6 release notes warn that this may be the final iteration in the iOS 18 series, as Apple shifts focus to iOS 26 ahead of its full release alongside the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. The beta 4 version of iOS 26, also issued this week, restores the Liquid Glass interface introduced at WWDC last year.
Apple advises users to back up their devices and ensure sufficient storage before installing the update. The company will continue to issue patches through the beta program and public releases as it prepares for the next major iOS launch.
