Meta has launched a standalone Instagram app designed for iPads, replacing the previously scaled-up iPhone version. The new app introduces a redesigned interface optimized for larger displays, along with new navigation options and improved content organization.
The iPad version is now available for download through the Apple App Store and requires devices running iPadOS 15.1 or later. Meta confirmed that a similar version tailored for Android tablets is in development.
This release follows Meta’s earlier rollout of a WhatsApp app built specifically for iPads, which debuted in May with support for Apple Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.
According to Meta, the Instagram app for iPad has been rebuilt for larger displays to simplify browsing and communication. The interface now shows messages and notifications side by side, and comments on Reels can be expanded without minimizing the video, maintaining a full-screen viewing experience.
Upon opening the app, users are directed to the Reels tab instead of the traditional feed, while Instagram Stories remain accessible at the top of the screen. Meta stated this layout reflects how users engage with tablets, emphasizing a more entertainment-driven experience.
Instagram has added a Following tab that allows users to prioritize and organize their feed. The tab offers three sections:
* All: Shows recommended posts and Reels from followed accounts.
* Friends: Displays content from mutual followers.
* Latest: Lists followed accounts’ posts and Reels in reverse chronological order.
Users can rearrange the feed order based on viewing preferences.
