Hyderabad AT a time when thousands of Covid patients across the country are even struggling to get medical oxygen let alone a ventilator-equipped hospital bed, a city-based engineer developed a ventilator that will be beneficial to hospitals offering treatment for Covid-19. It can be used in homes also.

David Eshkol, an engineer and founder of Jerusha Green Motors, has developed this ventilator, which works as non-invasive healing gas breathing system with non-toxic compounds. The product uses endothermic plasma and will be useful for the Covid patients in supply of oxygen. It is named as '5M Health Booster,' which is re-configured and customised version of 5M Mileage Booster, an existing product developed by the company that is used for boosting mileage in vehicles. This device also functions with the support of ultra-sonic waves and plasma.

This new device will be used in supply of oxygen to the Covid patients suffering from shortness of breath. The healing gas from the ventilator will act as anti-inflammatory agent to the human body with the healing therapy. The gas pressure will be in the range of 600 ml/min to 1,000 ml/min. There is a timer for the ventilator, which can be set according to requirement of therapy.

"5M Health Booster works in tandem with present anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anticoagulants medications being administered by doctors for Covid patients. It also reduces cross contamination between patients," David Eshkol told Bizz Buzz. According to him, the machine relieves a person of inflammation in nasal passages and lungs, reduces free radicals. It also offers therapeutic benefits of reducing fever, assists and aids in better oxygen and carbon dioxide gas exchange in lungs, improves oxygen levels in blood. "It helps our body to generate and strengthen immunity to fight diseases such as Covid-19 on its own," Eshkol added.

He got the idea to develop the device when he himself suffered from shortness of breath during the initial stages of the Covid pandemic in the country. During the lockdown period, while attending the webinars of various respiratory societies, he came to know ventilators' design and functions, which are similar to the technology he used for developing 5M Mileage Booster. He succeeded in increasing his oxygen levels and those of his family members when they tested Covid positive. "I developed the ventilator using locally available raw material and parts. Though the prototype I developed cost around Rs 8-10 lakh, its price could be reduced drastically if manufactured on a mass scale," he said. For developing the device, the Telangana State Innovation Council issued a certificate to him under 'Intinta Innovation' initiative.

David Eshkol has approached medical equipment regulatory authorities and scientific organisations to get the device certified. "I am also looking for suitable investors to manufacture the ventilator," he said.
