According to early user reports, the iPhone 17 Pro of Apple has brought in new Camera Control button customization options, which have given the users the ability to personalize the feature for everyday use and thus, lessen the number of accidental activations.

The touch-sensitive Camera Control, which was first introduced at the iPhone 16 Pro, has been under criticism since its launch due to registering unintended presses and swipes. As a part of the new operating system (iOS 26), Apple has added new settings that let users control gestures, pressure sensitivity, and app shortcuts in response to this issue.

A new feature named “Light press to adjust Zoom, Exposure, and more” comes with a default-off toggle, which was the main reason of unintentional inputs before. This allows the user to pick which Camera Control features they want to use and adjust their interaction settings straight from the Settings page.

Technology reviewer Prakhar Khanna has given his take on the iPhone 17 Pro. He made the Camera Control set to open a Code Scanner on a double-tap, which enabled quicker access to billing apps without first unlocking the phone. “It’s secure because authentication is still required before transactions,” Khanna noted. This also allowed the Action Button to be used for other purposes, like putting the phone on silent.

Apart from app shortcuts, iOS 26 allows users to choose among six Camera Control functions: Exposure, Depth, Zoom, Cameras, Styles, and Tone. Khanna’s pick consisted of the three main functions—Exposure, Styles, and Tone—with the swipe gesture turned off to avoid accidental inputs. He also switched off the Clean Preview option, while keeping the on-screen toggles available, and activated the Lock Exposure and Focus function for stable camera settings.

Users can set the Camera Control button’s pressure sensitivity from the setting path: Settings > Camera > Camera Control > Accessibility. The personalized control settings are designed to make camera operation easier and less dependent on on-screen gestures.

Apple’s improvements in customization signify a departure from the earlier “one-size-fits-all” approach. The users are now allowed to do a lot of things with the Camera Control, like mapping it to often used apps, selecting the types of gestures, and locking important camera settings without having to do repeated taps or swipes.
