Google has finally is finally out with the much-awaited Year in Search 2025 report that exposes the most hot topics, events, and cultural moments that fascinated India the most during the past year. The list which already indicates the country's diverse digital habits includes the continua of the cricket match, the curiosity about AI, and the trends of viral entertainment, among others.
As per the report, the Indian Premier League (IPL) stood out as the most sought-after topic of 2025 whereas Google Gemini came second, which in a way, also marked India’s increasing dependence on AI-powered tools. Along with the Hindi words use of AI-related queries including Nano Banana Pro, DeepSeek, Perplexity, ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Flow, and X’s Grok—the transition towards more visual and interactive search trends was clearly exposed.
Google noted that India witnessed a strong blend of sports enthusiasm and tech curiosity. Women’s cricket also had a breakthrough year, with Jemimah Rodrigues emerging as one of the most searched personalities.
Entertainment trends were equally vibrant. The movie ‘Saiyaara’ became a nationwide sensation, with its lead actors Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday topping celebrity searches. The title track, too, ranked as the most searched song of the year. South Indian cinema made its mark with Kantara, Coolie, Marco, and Game Changer trending across regional categories.
The report also tracked major news events that shaped national conversations. Searches spiked for Operation Sindoor, the Waqf Bill, Bihar Election Results, and India-Pakistan news, along with updates on earthquakes and local air quality.
When it came to travel, Indians showed interest in both domestic and international destinations—from Prayagraj and Pahalgam to Mauritius, Georgia, and the Philippines.
In the health and lifestyle category, the Haldi trend dominated, while food searches showcased a mix of traditional and global tastes, including Thekua, Ukadiche Modak, and Yorkshire pudding.
