Google’s Gemini AI may soon be built Into iPhones, says Sundar Pichai

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has expressed optimism about integrating Gemini, the company’s flagship AI platform, into Apple’s iPhones. Testifying on Wednesday during the ongoing U.S. antitrust trial against Google, Pichai confirmed that talks with Apple are underway and that a deal could be reached by mid-2025.
The trial, led by the U.S. Department of Justice, focuses on allegations that Google has maintained its dominance in search through massive payments to Apple for being the default search engine on Safari. During proceedings, Pichai revealed ongoing discussions with Apple to bring Gemini to its devices, potentially making it a built-in AI option on iPhones.
“I’ve had a series of conversations with Tim Cook over the past year,” Pichai told the court. “I’m hopeful we can get Gemini added as an option this year.”
If the partnership materializes, Gemini would be available alongside Apple’s in-house AI system—Apple Intelligence—which already powers features across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Apple has also recently teamed up with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT into Siri and its Writing Tools suite.
Despite their rivalry, Apple and Google have a long history of collaboration. Google services like YouTube were integrated into Apple devices from the very first iPhone in 2007. The most significant tie remains their multibillion-dollar search deal, now under regulatory scrutiny.
Apple is expected to unveil its latest software updates—including iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and a new macOS version—at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) starting June 9. If the Gemini deal is finalized soon, the announcement could be featured during the event.
