Google to launch its own meme studio! Here’s how it’ll work

After a series of major AI announcements this week, Google is reportedly working on a new feature for Gboard — its popular Android keyboard app. According to a report by Android Authority, the tech giant is developing an AI-powered meme generator called Meme Studio.
What is Meme Studio?
Meme Studio is designed to make meme creation quick and fun, right from your keyboard. Users will be able to select from hundreds of base images and add their own captions using an editor interface. In this editor, they can move, rotate, and resize the text, as well as add extra captions to personalize their meme. While current details suggest that font style and text color options may not be available at launch, these features could be added in future updates.

AI-Powered Creativity
A standout feature of Meme Studio is the ‘Generate’ option. Here, Google’s built-in AI can automatically select a base image and generate captions based on a topic provided by the user. This not only speeds up meme creation but also makes it easier for users to craft clever, topical content on the go.
To ensure a safe and inclusive experience, Google is also integrating advanced filters and safeguards to block explicit or offensive content.
The Bigger Picture: AI-Generated Content on the Rise
AI image generation has exploded in popularity over the past year. OpenAI’s ChatGPT gained attention for unlocking native image generation and real-time editing features, enabling users to turn personal photos into Studio Ghibli-style art or action figure-inspired designs.
Elon Musk’s xAI Grok also joined the AI race, offering an alternative AI chatbot experience, while Google had already introduced similar multimodal features in its Gemini 2.0 Flash model just days before ChatGPT’s upgrade.
With the launch of Meme Studio, Google seems set to reclaim some of the AI spotlight — showcasing the creative and interactive possibilities of its AI technology directly through Gboard.
