Google has quietly released a late-October software update for its Pixel lineup, excluding the Pixel Tablet. The tech giant had already deployed its regular October update earlier this month.

The update is small, roughly 30MB across all supported devices, and does not appear to bring noticeable changes for end users. Official release notes from Google are not available. Verizon, however, mentions that the firmware "provides performance improvements." On the Pixel 10, the build number advances from BD3A.251005.003.W3 to BD3A.251005.003.W4. Other Pixel models see a similar incremental change.

Experts speculate the update addresses a security concern identified by Google, prompting a standalone release rather than waiting for the November update, which is expected within days. Users who haven’t received the OTA can manually sideload it using factory images or OTA files from Google.

Despite claims of performance enhancements, Pixel 10 owners should not expect new GPU drivers in this release. The kernel version remains unchanged, though updated baseband firmware has been applied across devices.

Google’s monthly Pixel updates typically arrive in the first ten days of the month. The surprise October release raises the possibility of a slight delay for the November security patch. This aligns with recent leaks about an upcoming Android Feature Drop. The November update is expected to bring theme pack support, GIF creation in Pixel Studio, and improvements to the Pixel VIP widget.

Looking further ahead, the next major feature-focused update for Pixels will be Android 16 QPR2, currently in beta. The public rollout is expected in December and will introduce features like expanded dark mode, 90:10 split-screen support, enhanced HDR brightness, and customizable app icon shapes.
