Google Photos’ new AI features — including the Nano Banana model and Ask button — make photo editing and searching more intuitive than ever.

Google has made an announcement regarding a huge AI-powered improvement to its well-liked photo management application, Google Photos, thereby adding new editing and searching features that will streamline the process of photo organization and enhancement. The update, which is based on the company's innovative Nano Banana AI model, is now available for use in more than 100 countries and is also available in 17 languages.
AI Editing Now for Everyone
Until now, Google’s prompt-based photo editing tools were exclusive to Pixel 10 users. With this new rollout, the feature is expanding to all Google Photos users. The tool allows people to edit images using voice or text commands.
For example, users can say or type:
“Remove sunglasses from the photo.”
“Make everyone smile in the group picture.”
The AI automatically detects faces and applies changes individually using face-grouping technology, ensuring natural and accurate edits.
The Nano Banana AI model further enhances this by letting users apply personalized visual styles, transforming ordinary photos into artistic or cinematic versions with just a prompt.
AI Templates and New ‘Ask’ Button
A new set of AI-powered creative templates now lets users instantly transform photos into visually engaging collages or themed edits. These tools are available under the “Create” tab — rolling out first to Android users in the US and India before expanding globally.
Another major addition is the “Ask” button, a conversational AI feature that serves as an entry point for both photo search and editing. Users can interact with the app to find, modify, or get details about specific photos — such as asking, “Show me my beach photos from last year,” or “Find pictures from Diwali celebrations.”
This feature is complemented by Suggestion Chips, which display quick-action commands to simplify the process of searching and editing, making the experience smoother and more intuitive.
AI Search Expands to More Regions
The AI-powered search feature — which lets users look up photos using natural language queries — is currently live in the US and will soon be available in more than 100 countries. This tool makes it easy to rediscover memories without manually scrolling through thousands of images.
