Search engine giant Google has decided to lay off hundreds of employees from its Platforms and Devices unit — the team behind Android software, Pixel phones, and the Chrome browser.
This development comes months after Google offered voluntary buyouts to workers in the same unit back in January.
A Google spokesperson confirmed the move, saying, “Since combining the Platforms and Devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively, and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January.”
The measures mentioned above are part of Google’s effort to cut down on cost-cutting measures.
