Google is about to put a backward movement into one of its AI tools, Pixel Studio which has so far been available only for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series. The latest information from Google's support documentation implies that the tool will soon be accessible for 2023 Pixel 8 models.
With the help of Pixel Studio, people can create and change pictures just by giving AI prompts. So far, only the owners of the Pixel 8 series have been deprived of this app but the official documentation now clearly states "Pixel 8 and later" which means bigger rollout.
The update also teases a new feature called "Animate image". The feature has not yet started but Google has already revealed the procedure for its operation:
The first step is - Motion - choose the "Animate image" option.
Then comes - Refinement - use either custom text prompts or suggested actions to guide the movement.
Next is - Flair - go ahead and add captions, stickers, or overlays to the animation.
Finally, there is - Export - keep the final output as a WebP or GIF file ready to be shared.
Incorporating the Pixel 8 into the Pixel Studio's supported models is very relevant considering the Smartphone industry's condition of ever-frequent "forced obsolescence". The tech giant has really convinced hardware owners that they are getting their money's worth by allowing old devices to run new AI tools.
This strategy makes Apple look bad since it has been very strict in providing its wearables with the latest AI image generating technology by allowing it only on the fresh iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 series. Google can draw the conclusion that it has become a user-friendlier company over the competition.
Pixel Studio is meant to be among the users who love to do creative work, those who have fun by making memes, and casual designers who may not want to spend a fortune on Pixel 10 Pro. For these users, the update might be the case of existing Pixel 8 phones turning into the best and most versatile tools.
At this time, the feature is not available on the Play Store, causing users to wait. The support page has been updated, but the actual functionality rollout is still waiting.
Some users have tested the Pixel Studio app on newer devices and reported that although it is not a substitute for professional software like Photoshop, it is still good for quick, fun, and creative projects. This, however, mainly applies to the users of Pixel 8 as the full capability of the device is enhancing its future-proofing factor.
The update is soon to be made available on the Play Store by Google, and users are suggested to keep an eye on their app updates for when the feature becomes available.
