Google co-founder Sergey Brin revealed how AI assisted him in identifying an employee for promotion, someone he had not even noticed before. According to reports, Brin shared this anecdote on a recent episode of the “All In” podcast, offering insight into how artificial intelligence is reshaping leadership practices within major tech firms.

Since returning to Google in 2023 to dive deeper into AI initiatives, Brin has been experimenting with innovative ways to weave AI into everyday management tasks. He expressed his enthusiasm on the podcast, declaring, “Management is actually one of the easiest things for AI to handle.” One of the tools he noted utilizes AI to comb through group chats, summarizing discussions and even addressing inquiries or allocating responsibilities—all with remarkable efficiency.

But what truly struck Brin was when he tasked the AI with identifying a candidate for a promotion. To his surprise, the AI recommended a quiet yet diligent engineer—a young woman who had largely flown under his radar due to her reserved nature in team meetings. Intrigued, Brin approached the team manager about the suggestion. “I talked to the manager, and he agreed, saying, 'Yeah, you know what? You're right. Like she's been working really hard, did all these things," he said. "I think that ended up happening, actually," Brin recounted. As a result, this conversation paved the way for the well-deserved promotion.
