Google's parent company Alphabet is advising some employees with a US visa not to travel abroad due to huge backlogs at U. S. embassies and consulates, Business Insider reports, citing a memo from within the organization.
Warnings that hinge on emails from outside law firm BAL Immigration Law have also been given to staff requiring visa stamps prior to re-entry into the US. They go on to say that traveling outside the US right now could potentially mean an extended stay abroad, with processing times for visas having grown tremendously over the past few months. Several embassies are now reporting that condensed visa interviews could run up to 12 months, the email says, thereby affecting Google employees all over the globe.

These happenings have been speculated against the backdrop of heightened heat from the ever-impeccable Donald Trump administration about the H-1B program. Where a widely recognizable US-tech industry is a prime forbearer and has nominated India, the other nations participating are China. While there was no comment from Google on the lock-down directly, its internal memo instructions on this warning are that employees should exercise extreme caution in considering international trips till visa processing timelines get more stable.
Message for U. S.-based tech professionals who are toiling at the hands of work visas, be reminded how international traveling can be spell doom for such susceptible spectrum caused by phenomenal embassy delays, changes in policies, and relentless scrutiny by administrations.
