Samsung Electronics has introduced two new foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, equipped with multimodal artificial intelligence features. The release marks a strategic move to strengthen the company's dominance in the foldable device segment.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 offers a dual-purpose design, acting as both a tablet and a smartphone. When unfolded, the device expands into a large screen interface, while it functions as a conventional phone when folded. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip7 collapses into a compact size, easily fitting into small spaces such as pockets or purses.
TM Roh, President and Head of the Device eXperience Division at Samsung, emphasized that the new generation of foldables integrates artificial intelligence designed to optimize the foldable format, reflecting a refined approach to both hardware and software alignment.
Market data from Counterpoint Research shows that the global foldable phone market posted a year-over-year shipment growth of 2.9 per cent in 2024. Samsung led the sector, securing 45 per cent of total foldable sales worldwide.
Artificial intelligence is emerging as a central theme in the smartphone industry. Industry forecasts anticipate that AI-capable smartphone shipments will exceed 550 million units by 2027. As AI adoption continues, specifications for such devices are expected to shift in line with ongoing technological development.
