Mahindra & Mahindra has partnered with Samsung to launch a Digital Car Key feature for its electric SUV models, XEV 9e and BE 6. With this new system, the owners of Mahindra EVs no more have to worry about car keys at all, as they can lock, unlock, and even start their cars directly through their Galaxy smartphones.
This feature is already incorporated into the Samsung Wallet app, which means users can perform all vehicle access related operations securely from one app. Connection between Galaxy smartphones that support Near Field Communication (NFC) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) happens in no time, thus making the experience very convenient. Interestingly, the feature is not just for the latest phones but also for a vast number of Galaxy devices including those that are down to five years old in the Note and S series as long as they are NFC enabled.
The digital key comes with the sharing feature as well. Car owners can allocate temporary access to relatives or friends and still have control over it while the use is flexible. Even when the phone battery is exhausted, the key is still valid and the user is allowed to enter and start the car without the phone being on.
Safety precautions are top of the line in this matter. In case a mobile device with an active Digital Car Key gets lost, Samsung's Find service can be used to remotely lock the device or wipe data stored including the digital key. Moreover, access is granted only after biometric verification or entering a secret PIN that practically guarantees that no one but the rightful owner can operate the car.
The Samsung Wallet application is not only a digital car key hub but also a place for digital payments, IDs, and passes. The app takes advantage of Samsung Knox security which is a tiered security system that offers encryption as part of the protection for all data stored.
