Slimmer Than Ever: Samsung’s New Phone Aims to Outshine Apple

Reuters Photo from File Seoul: Samsung Electronics made the public slimmest Samsung smartphone top-of-the line model, equipped with a new artificial intelligence technology as it tries to stay ahead of its thinner iPhone rival in the premium market.

Samsung S25 Edge is the latest smartphone from Samsung. S25 Edge launch is designed to satisfy the increasing demands, particularly from people who are in the 20s or 30s seeking more portable smartphones trend phones.

"The feedback was clear - users wanted something slimmer and easier to carry without sacrificing performance," said Samsung that it implemented structural changes to decrease the thickness of its internal components, like that printed circuit board as well as the thermal system.

Analysts believe the launch was planned to avert Apple who is expected to announce thinner iPhone within the first quarter of the year.

"By releasing the product a few months ahead, Samsung could inflict some impact on Apple and attract consumers looking for thinner smartphones. It appears to be a calculated decision to capture that segment of demand," Ryu Young-ho is a senior analyst at NH Investment Securities, said.

Samsung AI phone 2025 will go on sale in South Korea on May 23 and in the United States on May 30, Samsung said, adding that it will be rolling it out in about 30 countries including China as well as Europe.

At $1,099, it comes with an 6.7-inch (170 millimetres) screen as well as the 5.8 millimetre thick body, making it bigger than the S25 Samsung AI features, but only marginally heavier.

It was the top premium smartphone launch maker in the initial period of the year 2025. Talking about 20% of worldwide market and surpassing Apple with a 19% of the market, figures obtained from Counterpoint Research showed.
