Nintendo announced on Wednesday that its newly launched Switch 2 console has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in just four days, marking the fastest sales pace in the company’s history. The launch success highlights strong demand for the upgraded gaming system, which hit shelves on June 5.
The Kyoto-based gaming giant aims to reach a total of 15 million Switch 2 sales by the end of its current fiscal year in March 2026, according to company forecasts made in May. This milestone reflects Nintendo’s confidence in the next-generation hybrid console’s market performance.
Doug Bowser, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, acknowledged the positive reception, noting that global fans are eager to experience the enhanced features of the new device, both at home and on the go.
Since the original Switch’s release in 2017, Nintendo has shipped more than 152 million units worldwide. The first-generation console established itself as a major player in the gaming world with popular titles like The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Switch 2 continues this legacy with improvements, including a larger display and upgraded visuals, while retaining the hybrid design.
The new console arrives with a 7.9-inch full HD LCD touchscreen offering 1920x1080 resolution, HDR10 support, and a variable refresh rate reaching 120Hz for smoother gameplay. It comes with 256GB of internal UFS storage, partially reserved for system use, and allows microSD Express cards for expanding storage up to 2TB.
Nintendo launched two variants of the Switch 2: a standard edition priced at $449.99 (roughly Rs 38,600) and a special Mario Kart World bundle at $499.99 (around Rs 42,900). The debut drew significant crowds at retail locations across key markets such as Japan and the United States.
Additionally, the Switch 2 supports 4K output at 60 frames per second when connected to compatible televisions via HDMI. It also enables frame rates up to 120fps at lower resolutions like 1080p or 1440p for enhanced smoothness during gameplay.
