Nintendo has made history again. Just four days after its global release on June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide, making it the fastest-selling console in the company's history. The gaming giant, headquartered in Kyoto, had already forecasted that Switch 2 sales would reach 15 million units by the end of the current fiscal year (ending March 2026).

"Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go," said Doug Bowser, President and COO of Nintendo of America.

Building on the Switch Legacy

Since its original debut in 2017, the first-generation Nintendo Switch has sold more than 152 million units globally. It became a household favorite with hits like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The Switch 2 builds on that legacy with enhanced visuals, a larger display, and updated internals — all while maintaining the hybrid console’s signature design. It launches alongside Mario Kart World, aiming to captivate both newcomers and longtime Nintendo fans.
