Apple is preparing to launch its iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, introducing four distinct models—iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new variant dubbed the iPhone 17 Air. The company is expected to retire the 'Plus' model, marking a strategic reconfiguration of its product offerings.
The iPhone 17 Air will feature a sleeker design and is not intended to serve as a direct successor to the Plus series. Instead, it represents a fresh category in Apple’s smartphone portfolio.
A recent analysis from Counterpoint Research suggests a potential price hike for the iPhone 17 series, driven by looming U.S. tariffs that may elevate production expenses. Although Apple has maintained steady pricing for base models in recent years, this stability might shift. Current projections estimate the starting price of the iPhone 17 in India to be around Rs 79,900, though official confirmation is pending.
Apple has historically announced its flagship phones in early September, a pattern expected to continue this year. However, one model—the iPhone 17E—may not follow suit. According to insights from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and a report by The Information, the 17E might be delayed until early 2026.
All four upcoming iPhones are anticipated to incorporate ProMotion technology, offering 120Hz refresh rates across the board—a feature previously limited to Pro variants. This change is attributed to Apple’s integration of LTPO OLED panels throughout the series. While these displays support always-on functionality, it's unclear whether this capability will extend beyond the Pro models.
The base iPhone 17 could continue with the A18 Bionic chip or move forward with an A19 processor, depending on which internal strategy Apple follows. Both processors are expected to use TSMC's 3nm node. The standard model will likely include 8GB of RAM, while the Pro variants might increase to 12GB. Each device will run on iOS 26, Apple’s latest OS announced at WWDC 2025.
Apple is reportedly upgrading its front-facing camera to a 24-megapixel unit with a six-element lens for improved selfies and video clarity. The Pro Max model could see a substantial boost with a 48-megapixel telephoto sensor. The iPhone 17 is expected to retain its existing Wide and Ultra Wide cameras, while the iPhone 17 Air may sport a singular 48-megapixel rear shooter.
