Apple revealed its new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro lineup at the Glowtime event, drawing significant attention from consumers and tech followers eager to upgrade. The release includes four distinct models, each equipped with a starting storage capacity of 128 GB to address a variety of user needs and budgets. The presentation highlighted improvements in design, performance, and artificial intelligence features, marking a substantial upgrade from the previous iPhone 15 generation.
Sustainability was a key theme, with Apple confirming that all iPhone 16 devices incorporate recycled materials in their construction. In the Indian market, pricing for the base iPhone 16 model begins at Rs 79,900, while the larger iPhone 16 Plus is priced at Rs 89,900. Premium options, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, carry prices of Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,44,900, respectively. This tiered pricing reflects Apple’s approach to catering to entry-level, mid-range, and high-end consumers. Despite global inflation trends impacting electronics, Indian pricing remains stable and competitive.
To encourage upgrades, Amazon has launched a device exchange program that offers substantial discounts for customers trading in older smartphones, reducing the upfront cost of the new iPhone 16 series. This trade-in scheme promotes sustainability by recycling older devices while making Apple’s premium products more affordable.
Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro model, featuring 128GB storage and finished in Natural Titanium, is currently listed on Amazon for Rs 1,12,900. Through Amazon’s exchange program, users can receive discounts up to Rs 42,750 by trading in a fully functional iPhone 15 with 512GB storage, effectively lowering the price to Rs 70,150. Further savings are available for buyers using Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit cards, with an additional Rs 7,545 discount, bringing the final cost to Rs 62,505. This offer can be combined with no-cost EMI options and cashback rewards.
The iPhone 16 Pro series introduces a new gold color alongside the existing Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium finishes. Display sizes include a 6.3-inch screen for the iPhone 16 Pro and a larger 6.9-inch screen for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the largest ever on an iPhone. Both feature thinner bezels and a 120Hz ProMotion always-on display.
Under the hood, the iPhone 16 Pro models run on the A18 Pro chipset, built on a 3nm process. The six-core GPU delivers a 20% performance increase compared to the A17 Pro, while the CPU improvements include 15% faster speed and 20% lower power consumption. The chipset also supports advanced machine learning, USB 3 speeds, and ProRes video recording.
Camera upgrades include a triple rear setup featuring a 48MP fusion camera with a second-generation quad-pixel sensor, enabling 48MP ProRAW and HEIF photos without shutter lag, and 4K video recording at 120fps. Additional lenses include a 48MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus, a 12MP sensor, and a 5x telephoto lens with a 120mm focal length.
Audio enhancements in the Pro series include Spatial Audio capture during video recording. The new Audio Mix feature utilizes machine learning to separate background noise from speech, while the In-frame mix isolates the subject’s voice, delivering a studio-like sound quality.
Battery details remain undisclosed, but Apple states the iPhone 16 Pro Max offers the longest battery life ever on an iPhone through improved power management and increased capacity.
