Google Pixel Watch 4 Gets Smart Gesture Controls and AI-Powered Smart Replies

The Pixel Watch 4 is getting an exciting new software update from Google that will include smarter gesture controls and AI-powered Smart Replies, among other features, to make daily interactions quicker and more fluid. The update based on Wear OS 6.1 is part of the December 2025 rollout and will be available in stages determined by device and location.

New Gesture Controls for Pixel Watch 4

Two new one-handed gestures are supported on the Pixel Watch 4: Double Pinch and Wrist Turn, intended for control without even touching the screen.

Double Pinch: The users can scroll through notifications, and dismiss alerts, etc. Simply by pinching the index finger and thumb together twice, the user can react to notifications, manage alarms, etc. Google has also indicated that this gesture for answering and hanging up on calls will be available shortly. The user experience is enhanced through the display of prompts that teach the use of gestures whenever the respective gesture is present on-screen.

Wrist Turn: With a flick of the wrist users can easily mute an incoming call or dismiss a notification. After the installation of the update, both gestures are automatically enabled.

AI-Powered Smart Replies

Google also plans to enhance the Pixel Watch 4's gesture technology with the new Gemma-based AI model that will power Smart Replies. The new model is now roughly double the speed and triple the memory efficiency of the old one. The Smart Replies, which propose responses as per the context in Google Messages, are now also available for the Pixel Watch 3 users, thus extending the advantages of AI powered messaging to more devices.

The update makes the Pixel Watch 4 more a user-friendly and efficient device, that allows the users to control the notifications, calls, and messages in an easy way— all through simple gestures and intelligent AI.
