Apple’s 2025 Launches: iPhone 17 Air, M5 MacBook Pro, New AirPods Pro

Apple Inc. on Wednesday detailed its 2025 hardware schedule, highlighting new models across its smartphone, laptop, tablet and audio lines.

Apple plans to introduce the iPhone 17 series in the fall, replacing the Plus model with an iPhone 17 Air variant. The Air model will feature a 5.5 mm profile, a 48-megapixel rear camera, a 24-megapixel front camera and a 120Hz OLED display driven by an A19 chip and Apple C1 modem. The standard and Pro versions will retain design elements from the iPhone 16 lineup, offer ProMotion screens at 120Hz and include tuned versions of the A19 processor.

The MacBook Pro line will shift to Apple’s M5 chip architecture, with M5, M5 Pro and M5 Max options. All three versions will use TSMC’s new SoIC packaging to enhance thermal management and electrical performance. Gains for the standard M5 are modest; users of the M5 Pro and M5 Max should see larger improvements in professional workflows.

Apple also will update its iPad Pro with the standard M5 chip. The tablet retains its OLED panel with Nano-texture glass, a repositioned front camera, a 12-megapixel rear camera with LiDAR and 256 GB of base storage. The device will ship with iPadOS 19, which is expected to introduce Apple Intelligence features and interface refinements announced at WWDC.

The Mac Pro desktop will move to an M4 Ultra chip, internally codenamed “Hidra,” focused on raw performance and on-device AI processing. The update marks the first Mac Pro revision in two years.

A third-generation AirPods Pro model is slated for release later this year. Leak reports point to upgraded noise cancellation, infrared sensors for spatial audio and health tracking, and a refreshed design.
