BYJU'S Announces New Round of Layoffs as Part of Cost Reduction Measures

Byju Raveendran, the founder of Byju's, India's most valued startup, recently sent an emotional email to his employees addressing the various crises the company has been facing in recent weeks. In the email, Raveendran expressed his deep dedication to the company, stating that it is not just his work but his life. He revealed that for the past 18 years, he has devoted more than 18 hours a day to Byju's, pouring his heart and soul into its mission. He further expressed his intention to continue this level of commitment for at least another 30 years.

Raveendran's email came after a town hall meeting where he discussed the same topics that were covered in the email. He clarified that the resignation of the company's auditor, Deloitte, was a mutually agreed-upon decision and did not lead to the departure of three board members. However, he acknowledged that the company is indeed facing tough challenges and uncertain times.

While Raveendran did not directly address issues related to employee layoffs and delays in appraisals, variable pay, and provident fund disbursements, he expressed empathy towards the team members who have been affected by downsizing. He assured them that the decision to lay off employees was made as a last resort and with a heavy heart.

Raveendran emphasized that despite the difficulties, Byju's remains resilient and stable. He stated that the company is committed to navigating through these challenging circumstances with careful decision-making and strategic planning. He also reassured his employees that EdTech is here to stay and that Byju's is determined to endure and succeed.

In his concluding remarks, Raveendran acknowledged that tough times may test them, but they also reveal their true strength. He expressed confidence in the future of EdTech and reiterated Byju's commitment to its mission. Raveendran's outreach to the employees aims to provide reassurance and instill confidence in the company's ability to overcome the ongoing crises it faces.
