Fortnite faced a major outage on Sunday, November 30, which impacted several basic game modes. Some players claimed that the game was down for both Battle Royale and Zero Build modes, and others experienced problems logging into the game.

According to Downdetector, the number of reports reached more than 3,000 during the most severe period of the outage. A large number of complaints were about connection difficulties associated with the debut of Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter Seven: Pacific Break, which unveiled a new map based on Hollywood and the California Coast.

Epic Games acknowledged the problems with the service and subsequently added that a number of game modes, such as Battle Royale, Zero Build, Save the World, and Ballistic, would be shut off for an indefinite period. The outage occurred simultaneous with the in-game release of Yuki’s Revenge, an animated short film that is exclusive to Fortnite.

At first, Fortnite Support recognized the login problems and said that some users “might be unable to log in" while the matter was being examined. The company later announced that the login difficulties were solved but the main game modes were still offline because of the ongoing event.

Gamers were quick to take their confusion to social media. Several posts on X (formerly Twitter) bemoaned the absence of Battle Royale and Zero Build. One user said, “Battle Royale isn’t showing up as an option,” while another lamented, “Can’t play Fortnite right now. No Battle Royale options.”

The outage happened at the same time as the global premiere of Yuki's Revenge on Fortnite, an animated short film that was directed by Quentin Tarantino. The event, part of Chapter Seven: Pacific Break, showcases a cinematic narrative that is supposed to draw players into the new story area. Tarantino told that Epic Games had asked for a short of eight to twelve minutes with the inclusion of popular Fortnite characters.

Chapter Seven comes with a new and signature Battle Royale experience set on an immense map that is inspired by Hollywood and the West Coast. The Yuki’s Revenge event supports Epic Games’ plan to mix cinematic storytelling with interactive gameplay by giving players a unique crossover experience.

The social media platforms were soon flooded with players' reactions, as they were looking for information about the sudden unavailability of game modes. A lot of them showed their disappointment over the temporary situation of not being able to access Battle Royale and Zero Build. The outage led to a lot of discussions in the gaming communities all over the world, which underlined high-profile in-game events having an effect on the stability of servers.
