Google confirmed on Wednesday that a recent battery drain problem affecting many Android users is linked to the Instagram app. The issue has been impacting devices, especially Google Pixel phones, since the May 2025 software update.
According to a statement from a Google community manager posted on Android’s official support forum, Instagram is releasing an updated app version (build 382.0.0.49.84) designed to resolve the excessive battery consumption. Android users experiencing rapid battery loss are advised to update Instagram immediately via Google Play Store.
Users can verify their app version by long-pressing the Instagram icon and selecting ‘App info.’ Keeping apps updated is critical to avoid performance issues and security vulnerabilities.
Earlier this month, reports surfaced on tech news platforms highlighting that Pixel device owners noticed accelerated battery drainage after installing the latest Android update. The root cause remained unidentified until Google's announcement pointed to the Instagram app.
While the exact technical reasons behind Instagram’s battery consumption spike remain undisclosed, Google’s prompt action aims to restore normal battery performance for affected Android devices.
