As excitement for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) builds, former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij has stirred debate with his thoughts on the game's promotional strategy. Vermeij, who worked on the Grand Theft Auto series before leaving Rockstar in 2008, recently voiced his opinion on the future of GTA 6's marketing campaign, advising the company to stop releasing further trailers.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Vermeij shared his belief that the current level of anticipation for the game is more than sufficient. He argued that adding more trailers could risk deflating the hype and reducing the game's impact at launch. “If it were up to me, I wouldn’t release any more trailers. The excitement for GTA 6 is already through the roof, and keeping the element of surprise intact would only amplify its arrival,” Vermeij wrote.

Expanding on this perspective, Vermeij suggested that Rockstar should go a step further by revealing the game's release date while keeping the remaining promotional content under wraps. He called this approach a "boss move" and emphasized that Rockstar’s history of secrecy and minimal reveals has contributed to the series' success.

The first trailer for GTA 6, released in December 2023, set viewership records and fueled intense speculation about the game’s storyline and features. Scheduled for release in autumn 2025, GTA 6 is expected to be one of the most anticipated games of the year. As the launch date approaches, it remains to be seen whether Rockstar will continue its tradition of limited promotional content or provide additional glimpses into the game ahead of its release.
